Horse riding holidays in Mendoza, San Juan and the Andes

Can you imagine yourself waking up every morning with the Andes mountain range right before your eyes? In Mendoza and San Juan, every stretch of our horseback route will seem even more surprising than the previous one.

Mendoza

The city of Mendoza, where we will spend the first day of our program – the Crossing of the Andes on horseback– boasts huge squares, wide streets and great views of the snow-capped peaks of the Andes Mountains.

In Mendoza, you can simply sit in a café and enjoy a real spectacle for the senses. On the horizon, you will see the Aconcagua, the highest peak in America at 6,962 meters above sea level. An irresistible lure to the most daring mountaineers.

The province of Mendoza is a paradise for lovers of water and adventure sports: skiing and snowboarding in Las Leñas; rafting, trekking, horseback riding...

After receiving a warm welcome from local people, you will discover how fascinating the gaucho culture is. You will taste some delicious local recipes and visit wineries where they produce some of the best wines in the world.

The climate in Mendoza

In the mountains, you will find a highland climate with very cold winters and cool summers. In winter, temperatures fall below zero, with abundant snowfall between May and September, reaching an average of 300 mm per year.

But beyond the seasons, Mendoza has clear skies and sunshine for most of the year, which makes it perfect for outdoor activities.

San Juan

Our horseback route from Argentina to Chile across the Andes begins in the the province of San Juan, in the geographical region of Cuyo.

This province is surrounded by the Andes Mountain Range, the Precordillera and the sierras pampeanas. Argentines learned to adapt to this rugged landscape and gradually settled in the habitable plains.

The Andes Mountains dominate the horizon from north to south and their peaks, with glaciers and eternal snows, can reach up to 6,700 meters above sea level. Native vegetation includes thorny shrubs, small bushes and grasses.

The climate in San Juan

San Juan is popularly known as the «Tierra del sol» (Land of the Sun) because it has 300 sunny days per year.

It has a semi-arid mountain climate with temperatures that vary depending on the time of year and altitude.

The high peaks of the Andes in the west are a natural barrier against the wet and cold Pacific winds, while the Sierras Pampeanas in the east soften the power of the Atlantic winds, reducing their moisture.

The Calingasta Valley

Our Andean horseback adventure begins in the Calingasta Valley, surrounded by the Precordillera and the spectacular snow-capped peaks of Los Andes. From here, you can see Mount Mercedario with an imposing elevation of 6,770 meters.

Not far from there is El Leoncito National Park, where you can find the best examples of native flora and fauna. You will see guanaco, Andean rhea and, if you are lucky, you may even spot a puma...

In this park, there are also two observatories from where you can see celestial bodies in the clear sky of Calingasta.

How many reasons do you need to visit Mendoza and San Juan? We can give you as many as peaks in the Andes.
